Tips and Tricks – Using Binovi to continue vision therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic
By now we’ve all heard about “flattening the curve” through social distancing and self-isolation in the wake of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic that has been affecting people around the world. Keeping a distance, and avoiding any unnecessary physical contact, is a key factor in limiting the spread of such a contagious illness, and it is precisely these precautions that are leading health practices of all kinds —like optometrists or dentists— to shut their doors and turn away patients, albeit temporarily. This loss of care for patients can set them back weeks or months, and can lead to serious problems for your practice.
With Binovi, however, that doesn’t necessarily need to happen. Care teams can stay up to date on what and how their patients are doing, and can perform some vision therapy remotely without either the patient or their therapist leaving home! Consider using video calls, either using Apple’s FaceTime, or video calling options in Facebook Messenger or other services, to keep patients up to date on your practice’s whereabouts and as a substitute for in-office contact. Where possible, patients can even have a family member be the cameraman, providing a first-person view of activities being performed during such therapy sessions, allowing for them to continue therapy from the safety of home.

Taking some time now to stay on top of things can uncover things that were missed in the past, and provide insights into how to improve your practice for the future.
This is also a good opportunity to review your practice’s custom activities, create and add photos or video if applicable, or even create new activities, especially if you haven’t already done so!

Ultimately, the goal is to allow both you and your patients to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic while still being able to get vision therapy sessions in as normal. This degree of flexibility may take some time to get used to, but ultimately can help improve your patient outcomes and your practice’s health too.
